Insurance will pay “Funeral Expenses” in the event of the death of an insured person or dependent.On the other hand, insurance will pay “Funeral Costs” to the person who actually handles the burial of a deceased person with no family members or close friends.

Funeral Expenses/Funeral Costs (for dependents, “Dependents' Funeral Expenses”)

Amounts paid, Death of the insured person: Funeral Expenses/Funeral Costs 50,000yen+The Society's additional benefits 150,000yen. In the case of a deceased person with no family members or close friends, the actual cost of the burial is paid to the person who actually handles the burial as Funeral Costs, up to the amount of the Funeral Expenses benefit, Death of a dependant: Dependents' Funeral Expenses 50,000yen + The Society's additional benefits 150,000yen.

In the event of the death of an insured person, “Funeral Expenses” of 50,000 yen will be paid to “bereaved family members supported by the insured person”.
In the event of the death of a dependent family member, “Dependents' Funeral Expenses” of 50,000 yen will be paid to the insured person.

The society's additional benefit: “Funeral Expenses Additional Sum”

In addition to Funeral Expenses, the Health Insurance Society also provides its own independent benefits (additional benefits).

If a person depending (even partially) on the income of the current or former insured person for his or her living made funeral arrangements, including burial Fixed amount of 150,000 yen
To the person actually making funeral arrangements, including burial, if no one depended on the income of the current or former insured person for his or her living as of the date of the death Actual costs within the sum of 150,000 yen and funeral expenses of 50,000 yen

“Bereaved family members supported by the insured person”

In the event of the death of an insured person, Funeral Expenses will be paid to bereaved family members supported by the insured person. However, this category is not restricted to dependents. It includes anyone who depended for their livelihood on the income of the insured person at the time of his or her death, even if the bereaved did not belong to the same household as the insured person or did not have a family relationship with him or her.

If the cause is a workplace accident

When the death was caused by an accident at the workplace or while commuting, Funeral Assistance will be paid by Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance instead of health insurance. Check with the person responsible at your establishment for more information.

  • *When even illnesses and injuries on-the-job are not targeted for benefits of the Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance, benefits of the health insurance are provided except the duties as the officer of the corporation (except for a corporation less than five employees).

Handling of deceased's Individual Number (My Number)

To ensure appropriate handling of the deceased's Individual Number, the Individual Number is not required for the deceased. You will not be required to enter the Individual Number for the deceased insured person on the Claim for Funeral Expenses, Notification of Loss of Eligibility, etc.
